Today In Baseball History – October 18, 1950



Connie Mack, 87, retires after 50 years as the manager of the Philadelphia A’s.  A true pioneer of the game, –as a player he hit .245 over 10 seasons (1886-1896) with the Washington Nationals, Buffalo Bison & Pittsburgh Pirates before becoming the manager of the A’s in 1901 where he went on to win 3,731 games over the next 50 years.
